In 2011, the Longmont Area Visitor’s Association (LAVA) challenged Bark! to create a website that captured the essence of Longmont, a rising all-American city with a focus on technology and a history of perseverance. LAVA needed a way to connect with both the local population and out-of-town travelers; a way to shepherd these visitors and locals to all the best that Longmont has to offer.
To start, we created an advanced event submission and calendar system that would allow local groups to submit events for display on the LAVA website. It features Google Maps API integration as well as RSS and iCal feeds.
Next, LAVA wanted a way to showcase all the activities, restaurants, hotels, and retail stores in the area. An excellent resource for locals and travelers alike, we built a database-driven custom module that enables users to search for everything from restaurants offering specific cuisine types to hotel meeting rooms.
Of course we also delivered a full-featured blog with archives and homepage widget, as well as a CMS system offering unlimited pages. With website traffic surging past 50,000 unique visitors per year, LAVA considers the site a great success.
